Meet Dr. Ackerman
Homegrown, Dr. Tim Ackerman is a native of Cottage Grove, attending Park High School and St. Olaf College. He obtained his Dental Degree at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, earning many awards and accolades and graduating with high distinction.
Dr. Ackerman accepted his commission as an ensign in the US Navy and entered active duty upon graduation from dental school. He completed a General Practice Residency (GPR) in dentistry at Naval Medical Center San Diego California and served as a general dentist at the US Navy Branch Dental Clinic, Sasebo, Japan before earning his Medical Degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington DC. He went on to complete both a General Surgery internship and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.
Following residency, Dr. Ackerman served as residency staff, instructing Navy and Army residents before reporting to Naval Hospital/Naval Dental Center, Yokosuka, Japan where he served as the Department Head for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He reported aboard the USS KITTYHAWK CV-63 forward deployed aircraft carrier after his time at the Naval Hospital. His deployments carried him to multiple exotic locations in KITTYHAWK’s Southeast Asian area of responsibility. He returned stateside and accepted positions as Department Head, Specialty Advisor for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Naval Health Clinic Great Lakes/VA North Chicago (Currently the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center). He deployed with the Hospital Ship USNS COMFORT in support of OPERATION CONTINUING PROMISE humanitarian assistance mission to nine countries in Central and South America. During his Navy Career, Dr. Ackerman received robust training and experience across the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Ackerman transitioned from the Navy at the rank of Captain.
He is married to Laura Jo (Enochson) Ackerman also of Cottage Grove. They have two grown sons, one a US Marine and the other an intrepid civilian. Dr. Ackerman’s professional interests include orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery, complex dental implant surgery, and wisdom tooth removal. His personal interests are many but his greatest joy is found spending time with his family in Minnesota’s great outdoors.
